Kincardine recognizes Lane Bauman as WOBA player of the year
January 24, 2023
The Municipality of Kincardine has recognized Lane Bauman of Kincardine who was named the 2022 Western Ontario Baseball Association (WOBA) player of the year.
Kincardine deputy mayor Andrea Clarke, who was chairing the Kincardine council meeting Monday night (Jan. 23) in the absence of the mayor, presented a plaque to Lane to acknowledge his accomplishments.
Clarke also read the following statement:
The 2022 season was extremely successful for the Under-11 (U11) Kincardine Cardinals who won the Saugeen Shores tournament in June and came within an extra-inning loss of being provincial champions for the second consecutive year.
One of the biggest reasons for the success of the team was 2022 WOBA player of the year Lane Bauman.
According to Lane’s coach, Greg Stepaniak, he was dominant on the offensive side of the ball, leading the Cardinals in almost every single category. This included 63 hits, 14 triples, two home runs, 23 stolen bases and an amazing 57 RBIs (runs batted in), in just 36 games played.
Lane was a threat every time he stepped into the batter’s box and reached base in almost 60 per cent of his plate appearances.
As a pitcher, Lane was almost as dominant. Through 32 innings of work, he compiled a four-and-one record, with 51 strike-outs. He held opponents to a batting average of .219 while throwing 56 per cent of his pitches for strikes. He was near the top of almost every single pitching category among Cardinals pitchers.
Off the field, Lane was a team leader who led by example, and was always supportive of his teammates, said Stepaniak. One of the hardest workers on the team during practices, Lane continues to focus on improving his game, while helping his teammates along the way.
Congratulations, Lane!
