Huron-Kinloss remuneration shows $50,000 increase in 2023

Huron-Kinloss Township taxpayers spent $189,535.15 on council remuneration for 2023, up by about $50,000 from the $137,529.36 paid out the year before.
Treasurer Jodi MacArthur presented the report at the March 18 council meeting, outlining the total cost for council members' salaries and per diems, plus expenses:
- Mayor Don Murray received a total of $45,100.38, including $43,149.46 in salary and per diems, and $1,950.92 in expenses
- Deputy mayor Jim Hanna was paid $24,734.07, including $22,011.54 in salary and per diems, and $2,722.53 in expenses
- Councillor Larry Allison received $25,236.07, including $22,886.04 in salary and per diems, and $2,350.03 in expenses
- Councillor Shari Flett was paid $26,524.69, including $21,699 in salary and per diems, and $4,825.49 in expenses
- Councillor Scott Gibson received $23,769.34, including $19,838.92 in salary and per diems, and $3,930.42 in expenses
- Councillor Edward McGugan was paid $27,211.72, including $24,414.20 in salary and per diems, and $2,797.52 in expenses
- Councillor Carl Sloetjes received $16,485.88, including $15,654.08 in salary and per diems, and $804.80 in expenses
Allison also received $1,243.48, including $750 in salary, and $493.48 in expenses for serving on the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA), which is paid by the SVCA.
McGugan also received $1,122 in salary, for serving on the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), paid by the MVCA.
In addition, Sarah Martyn received $250 in salary, and Ian Montgomery received $250 in salary, for serving on the police services board; paid by the township.
Total remuneration for 2023 was $189,535.15.
